The Power of Thoughts and a Shift in Focus
Infinity is a pretty big concept and includes any and everything you could ever dream of having in your life. When you start consciously working with the power of Unconditional Love (aka Divine Light Vibrations) and the Basic Activation of Divine Light Vibrations Guided Meditation, you’ll find that your thoughts create results faster than ever.
The thing is, it’s easy to fall into spending more time thinking about what we DON’T want, instead of what we DO want. If we try to willfully stop thinking about it, it can downright plague us.
What ends up happening? Our not-wants get mixed in with our wants.
If you recognize it happening to you, the solution is simple: Shift focus.
Here’s a true story to illustrate why and how it works.
Stop Thinking About It!
“I’m not going to think about it. I’m not… I’m not… I’m not. Dammit, I can’t stop thinking about it!” She frowned. “Why?”
I smiled. The power of thought was about to reveal itself to her. “Because you can’t think a ‘not’, that’s why.”
“What are you nuts? What do you mean I can’t think a ‘not’? There’s lots of ways to think not. Not pretty… not hungry… not going… not going to eat chocolate … especially the Lady Godiva chocolate I have hidden in the pots and pan cupboard.”
“What are you thinking about right now?”
“Well, I’m not thinking about the Lady Godiva chocolate with the rum flavored truffle filling, that’s for sure…. I’m thinking about… chocolate baby bears…. no, I’m not thinking about chocolate…. I’m thinking about… cars… chocolate cars… God, it’s all about chocolate! How do I stop thinking about chocolate? Now I’ve got a chocolate God in my brain.”
“I told you; you can’t think a ‘not’.”
“Your brain processes images. If you put the concept ‘not’ next to another image, your brain can’t process the ‘not’ part and only focuses on the image that follows. Want an example?”
“Do not, under any circumstances, think about… monkeys.”
“So, what are you thinking about?”
“So, do NOT think about monkeys. Try really hard to STOP… thinking… about… monkeys.”
“Dammit, now there’s a whole forest full of them.”
“So, stop ‘not’ thinking about monkeys. Try not thinking about something else.”
“Don’t think about bananas.” I waited a few seconds. “So what are you thinking about now?”
“Monkeys eating bananas.” She laughed.
“See? You can’t think about a ‘not’. You have to think about a ‘something’. If you don’t want to think about a monkey, decide what you do want to think about and focus on that.”
Looking around, her eyes lit on a woman walking by. “Shoes. I’ll think about high heeled shoes.”
“Okay. So, what are you thinking about?”
“Jimmy Choo shoes. Black patent leather with the cutest little cut out toe and a sleek high heel that makes you feel tall and regal… with a matching patent leather handbag.”
I laughed. “It looks like you got the ‘principle’. The Universe only knows creation, just as your mind only knows creation. Once you let your mind flow in a direction of focused chosen thought, without trying to stop it or control it with a ‘not’, your creative juices kick in an all sorts of details get added. Try it on other things and decide for yourself.”
(Two weeks later…)
“You technique works,” she said with a grin that split across her face.
“The one about focused thought. I tried it.” Looking down at her shoes, she added, “You like them? I saw a pair exactly like the ones I imagined that night. I couldn’t resist. I found the purse two days later.”
It was hard not to smile at her enthusiasm. Still. “Have you thought about using it on anything else in your life?”
“I started to work on an Armani dress, but I decided to focus on inner peace instead. I figured that was better value for my thoughts.”
Indeed it was.
Years later, she still has the clothes she loves in her life, BUT she no longer looks to them as her primary reference of self worth. After inner peace, she discovered so much more!
So whenever you’re focused on ‘not’ wanting something, try thinking about what you do want.
There’s no sense in wasting the power of this Principle on just shoes and things.
Keep this in mind:
- It works on whatever you choose to think about.
- It’s not limited to anything in particular.
- You can apply it to any habit pattern and belief system you no longer want to live under.
