THE INSIDE SCOOP ON “ASK AND RECEIVE”
The inside scoop on “ask and receive” starts with a true story. You’ve probably witnessed something similar, no matter where in the world you live
I’m at the grocery story, playing my own mental version of “ask and receive”. Italy is notorious for not having air conditioning in homes. Mine is no exception. It does, however, exist in stores and supermarkets.
I’m here because, when I asked for relief from this current summer heat wave—I’m talking 100 degrees of humid heat—I got the big idea to go stand in front of the frozen food section of the grocery store. I know how to regulate my body heat, but I jumped on the idea because it also gave me a good excuse to jump on my scooter for a quick change of scenery.
So far I’ve “evaluated” five different ice cream options that were conveniently located behind five different doors. Each one has offered up a new blast of cold air so my “ask and receive” is going gangbusters. Plus, I haven’t incited any of the employees to come over and read me the riot act for throwing the refrigeration system into tilt.
I pull out a box of all-fruit popsicles, and consider if they’re a viable way to bring some of that coolness home with me. That’s when another example of “ask and receive” plays itself out in all its drama.
A little girl with a head full of adorable curls fixes her round chocolate-brown eyes on my box of popsicles. Her eyes narrow in calculation.
“Mom.” She tugs at her Mother’s sleeve. “Can I have a popsicle?”
“No, honey, we need to get the shopping done.” Mom has an abstracted air to her as she reads the label on a bag of frozen vegetables.
“Pleeeeeeeease?????!!!!” Little Curly Head slaps her palms together, fingers pointing upwards like children learn in Sunday school. “I beg you!”
Mom ignores her daughter. She’s well aware of the other shoppers who are watching. Irritation flashes from some of their eyes, waiting for a six year-old tantrum to explode. Why can’t that mother keep her child in line? Others hold back smiles of amusement.
Out of courtesy to the mother, I put the box of popsicles back in the freezer compartment, and sidle away to another part of the freezer. I can always come back later and get it if I want.
Little Curly Head, on the other hand, pays no heed to the people watching. She doesn’t care. The popsicle is her goal, and by all Barbie Dolls holy, she wants it.
“Mooooooooommmmmmm!” She drags one word into one long whine lasting about three seconds. When that doesn’t work, she stamps her foot in irritation, and points to the freezer where her treat is staring back at her through a frosted window. “I. WANT. POPSICLE!”
“I said, ‘no’,” Mom hisses in a low voice that clearly says she means business. She puts the bag of vegetables in her cart, and reaches for a bag of potatoes.
Little Curly Head tries another tactic. She tilts her head and asks with an cherubic smile filled with hope, “Pretty please?”
Mom pretends not to hear.
Not yet daunted, Little Curly Head tries to get them for herself. They’re well beyond her reach.
Mom tries to divert her daughter’s attention by engaging her in choosing the next vegetable.
Little Curly Head will have none of it. She drops to the floor and belts out a wail. “Waaaahhhhhhhhh! Pooooopppppsicle!”
It’s obviously her go-to trick to get her way. It’s worked before. Maybe it’ll work again. It does.
Mom gives a resigned sigh and puts a box of popsicles into their shopping cart. Little Curly Head beams. Victory is hers.
And a conditioned dynamic has been duly fed.
We all learned tricks at an early age to get what we want from the powers-that-be. We learn to beg, repeat the request until the coveted ‘yes’ comes to us, pretend we don’t want it anyway if we get a ‘no’, wait for our turn, or another opportune moment. The list of tricks goes on.
What trick(s) did you learn as a child to get what you asked for?
As we grow older, our tricks become more sophisticated. But they’re tricks just the same. It’s no wonder we have such a hard time wrapping our head around a concept so simple, and profound, as the Principle of “ask and receive”. We’ve been spoon fed the idea that someone else needs to give us what we want.
Todays reader’s question pertains to the Principle of “ask and receive”. It was shared in the comment section of the article, “5 Big Secrets to Getting What You Want.”
A big “thank you for the question” because….
Her sharing is spreading her Light, and helping others to understand on deeper levels, too!
I’m including most of her translated comment, along with her question, because it brings up some important points about how to work effectively with the power of Unconditional Love (aka Divine Light Vibrations) when you ask and receive.
“There’s one thing that’s not clear to me. In general, I decide what I want, send out my request (kind of like sending an email), wait to feel vibrationally that the request was granted and the process started. In the following days, I might go back and refine my request.
But, in general, is that how it works?
Sometimes this doubt rises up that says I have to make the request every day just to be sure that I get what I want. Obviously, after a while, this stresses me out and becomes boring! Maybe there’s a subtle conviction in me that feels I have to monitor and keep everything under control to get the results I want? That’s what I don’t yet fully understand.
In summary: HOW MANY TIMES do I need to ask Divine Light to manifest what I want? Especially if it’s something I really want?”
Good question! Since it’s a pretty common one, it’s worth talking about in an article.
The short answer is super simple: Once.
IF your ego intellect is fully aligned with your Divine Soul Knowing, that is.
And you’re super ready to receive it.
If it isn’t, and you’re not, then read on for the longer answer. We’ll look at some of the things we do to keep Divine Light Vibrations from manifesting what we ask for. Or why we have trouble keeping our focus.
We’ll also take a look at how she’s mis-directing her attention.
All the great religions talk about the Universal Principle of, “Ask, and you shall receive.”
The concept is simple. Precise. The words are easy to understand intellectually.
Emotionally, not so much because so much of our past conditioning comes into play. Our adult mind fabricates the limiting ideas from our childhood all the time.
“Don’t be greedy.”
“You don’t deserve it.”
“She’s gonna’ say, “no.””
You gotta’ beg and plead to get what you want. So… “Please! Please! Please!”
“I don’t want to bother God. He’s busy enough as it is.”
Etcetera. You get my drift.
“Ask and Receive” is one of the Basic Principles of Unconditional Love that I talk about in the book, “How to Make the Most of Your Earth Experience (14 Principles for Living Unconditional Love).” It goes into greater detail about how Unconditional Love flows and manifests, and why precision is so important.
For now, though, let’s talk about the dance of Divine Light Vibrations, and how to “ask and receive” as an adult.
The kicker to this Principle of “ask and receive” is you’ve got to believe on deep emotional levels that whatever you ask for is possible. And you deserve it. Otherwise, you’ll subconsciously slow the process down, or even block it in some way.
Doubt and faith are intertwined with ask and receive.
The first time I really took the time to contemplate the alchemy between ask and receive was an eye-opener. As it turned out, I didn’t have it down pat like I’d thought. Doubt and faith were in there rockin’ and rollin’ like they owned the dance floor.
“If I had faith the size of a grain of a mustard seed,” I thought with an uprising sensation of anticipation and hope, “I could manifest miracles. That’s what he said, so…”
“But, wait a minute!” My doubt interjected. “Exactly how big is a mustard seed grain?”
I did some research.
Those boogers are teensy. I mean smaller than a chocolate inspired pimple.
“That’s not so big,” I thought. “Surely I have more faith than that?”
Turns out I did. Well, that is, once I uncovered it from all the doubts that had buried it away deep inside my Being.
So how’d I get to where doubt wasn’t a factor in my ask and receive dance with Divine Light Vibrations?
It was something my Teacher of thirty years ago told me.
She said, “Practice the Presence of God as being equally everywhere present. You’ll start to have experiences that confirm this. Those experiences will teach you trust, which is much stronger than faith. Plus, your concept of God will evolve as you do.”
So I set about gaining experience.
My concept of God deepened, became richer. That vague emotional idea of an old man in the sky—the one sporting a long white beard and banging his staff as he passes judgment like a crotchety-on-the-outside, loving-on-the-inside, grandfather figure—turned into so much more.
Then, holy camoli, amazing things started happening! What I’d once called miracles, became every-day normal. I wrote about some of them in the book “How to Make the Most of Your Earth Experience (14 Principles for Living Unconditional Love)”.
I learned early that when I repeated a request, it was from the headset of reminding myself that, “Oh yeah, that’s right. I trust that what I want can and will… no…” I corrected myself. “Can and IS manifesting. Right here and now.”
Once you have enough experiences in your pocket, the remembering, trusting, and allowing it to unfold becomes an emotional habit.
If you’ve been reading my articles, you’ve heard me describe Divine Light (aka Unconditional Love) before. Still, it bears repeating to help your ego intellect grasp it on deeper levels.
The more you understand it emotionally, the less work it takes to focus the flow of Unconditional Love in the direction you truly want.
- An Infinite Intelligence that knows all things, because It created all things.
- An Omniscient (All-knowing) Wisdom, that knows how to manage all things for the highest good of all.
- An Omnipotent (All-Powerful) Unconditional Love that can manifest in any way, shape, or form.
Here’s how the alchemy of “ask and receive” works.
The act of “asking” opens up a new channel in your ego intellect that directs the flow of Unconditional Love that’s already moving through you, ready to be directed into something new and concrete.
The act of “receiving” is all about your ego intellect allowing Divine Light to manifest as you asked. You need to start receiving the experience right from the get-go for it to flow smoothly.
It creates a domino effect.
You allow yourself new thoughts, which transmit new vibrations, which attract new circumstances. You’re open to them.
Since your brain synapses (the old pathways of conditioned thought) start to rearrange themselves into new pathways, you see the opportunities when they arise. You say “yes” to new experiences, and new outcomes happen.
Remember, Divine Light is Infinite and Unconditional. You’re the one that puts conditions on It!
The deeper you go into Illumination, the easier it is for your ego intellect to live the memory of how simple this is. Read the article: Illumination, Divine Souls, and the Illusion of Duality (Separation).
Now that we have the basics down…
Let’s look at how the question and comment was worded.
It sends up a few red flags, and shows how your focus is slightly left of the bulls-eye. Let’s refine it for better results.
The book, “How to Make the Most of Your Earth Experience (14 Principles for Living Unconditional Love)” talks about paying attention to the signals your body and words communicate. They tell you what’s really going on in your psyche. Check it out if you want to know more.
The first red flag in your comment was how you described asking as “sending out the request (kind of like an email)”.
That tells you that you’re approaching your Light work with the subtle emotional idea that Unconditional Love is separate from you, so you’re directing your focus outwards, even as you’re paying attention to the sensations in your body.
Heads up! Direct your attention even more towards your Divine Soul Knowing!
You don’t need to “send” your request anywhere. Infinite, Omniscient, Omnipotent Unconditional Love is already flowing through you, waiting for YOU to direct It into something concrete.
The second signal is the concept of your request as “being granted”.
It would be a great idea to take a look at your subtle belief system in this. In your mind, exactly who is doing the “granting”?
Sometimes a conditioned belief lives on in our subconscious. The concept of the old man in the sky passing judgment, and evaluating our worthiness, is often there influencing us long after we think we’ve put him to bed.
When dealing with the power of Unconditional Love of Divine Light, the only “permission” needed is what you give to yourself. It doesn’t come from some outside source. Release the belief to Divine Light Vibrations for transformation into illumination.
The third was when you said that after a while, it stresses you and gets boring.
That tells you that you’re investing to much attention to asking, and not enough on learning to receive.
By the way, if you’re ever bored working with Divine Light Vibrations, it’s time to refine your focus! That’s a big red flag that’ll tell you that you’re just giving lip service to Divine Light Vibrations. It never pays. Besides, if you want boring, you can always go listen to Aunt Gladys (or one of her cronies) go on and on about the good old days before the Internet blah, blah, blah.
Here’s a wonderful thing: You’re feeling a vibrational response after you ask Divine Light Vibrations to manifest in a certain way!
To refine your approach, try framing the vibrations you feel afterwards this way: What you’re feeling is Divine Light Vibrations moving in direct response to your willingness to let what you want manifest. Let go and receive the experience on deeper levels.
Give it a try, and see if that doesn’t make a big difference.
This brings us full spiral, deeper into the initial answer to the question, “How often do I need to ask?”
Divine Light only needs to be asked once. It’s that powerful.
The rest is up to you.
You might have to go through a growing process to be up to the task of receiving, especially if what you asked for is big. You might have to remember to receive, or to allow Divine Light to transform the limiting beliefs that emotionally keep you from letting it happen.
But your Divine Soul—the Infinite You—is guiding you every step of the way. Look within. Ask. Listen. Act.
(Because knowledge without action is a Mind Game at best.)
“Ask and receive” is simple.
But it’s not always easy if you’re not practiced at it.
For some, to ask is the hard part.
- **If you feel reluctant to ask at all, that comes from your ego intellect’s struggle with worthiness issues. The Spiritual Transformation eJournal that you got when you signed up for Good Stuff! Updates should help you uncover where you learned to hold yourself back. You’re a multi-layered person so don’t hesitate to revisit the Spiritual Transformation eJournal again and again. Each time you do, you’ll be more prepared to go deeper into your heart of hearts. (If you haven’t signed up, look on the side bar or below this article.)
- **If you don’t have a clue about what you want, that comes from not listening within, and not releasing the past conditioning that’s fogging up your perceptions of possibility. The Basic Activation of Divine Light Vibrations Guided Meditation will help you with this.
- **If you keep changing what you ask for (not refining, but actually changing), that comes from not being clear on what you want. Again, you’re not listening within. Do the Basic Activation of Divine Light Vibrations Guided Meditation more often. Try to refine your intention to let new vibrations of Unconditional Love activate within your Being. The more refined the vibrations in you, the more refined your thoughts become. The more refined your thoughts, the easier it is for Divine Light to manifest through them.
By the way, if you ask, and then totally forget what you asked for, you didn’t really mean it emotionally. It’s time to make a decision if you really want it, or not. Then, make peace with the decision.
For most, to receive is the hard part.
Divine Light is constant. Precise. Unfailing.
So if what you want isn’t manifesting, that could come from one of three things (or a combination of all).
1. Your ego intellect’s worthiness issues.
2. Your ego intellect’s trust issues.
3. A battle between your ego intellect and subconscious with your wants, not-wants, and limiting beliefs. The online course, “Meet the Infinite You (8 Step Master Program to Personal Freedom)” goes into more detail and can help free you from the weight of it.
If trust issues are in play, it’s a matter of practice. Trial and error. That’s how you learned to walk as a baby, and trust the earth would be something constant that you could depend upon without fail. It’s how you relearn to consciously use your inherent power as an adult.
In either case, here’s what you do to refine your approach to “ask and receive”:
- *Do the Basic Activation of Divine Light Vibrations Meditation. Access it through your Member’s Area. Or CLICK HERE to sign up to the Member’s Area.
- *Consider how the flow of Unconditional Love that originates from beginning of time is flowing through your solar plexus, through your entire Being, manifesting fully and freely through every thought you have.
- *Acknowledge what you want…
- *Ask for that or something better. (It never hurts to give Infinite Intelligence, Omniscient Wisdom, and Omnipotent Unconditional Love the leeway to treat you better than you’ve learned to treat yourself.
- *Accept your willingness to have it…
- *And then LET Divine Light move accordingly to manifest it.
- *Hold the thought of what you want until it’s been fully manifested. Do whatever you need to do to keep it active in your mind as you go about your daily business.
- *Remind yourself by feeling it on deeper levels in meditation everyday. Follow the guidance of Your Divine Soul—the Infinite You.
- *Refine your focus if need be by releasing doubts to Divine Light Vibrations for transformation into illumination
